Allergy Season – Try This!

Allergy Season

Anyone out there suffer from allergies? Well, tis the season for runny noses, watery eyes, consistent sneezing and the unrelenting fatigue that goes along with allergies. If you are doing all of the right things, i.e. taking appropriate medications, keeping your home windows closed, and washing off before bed, and STILL suffering consider adding Quercetin Complex from Thorne to your routine.

Allergy Supplement

Quercetin supplementation can assist with reducing histamine levels by stabilizing the body’s mast cells. Histamine is the compound released by cells in response to injury or allergic reactions and is responsible for most of the symptoms we suffer from during allergy season. The other compound in this supplement is bromelain. Bromelain is a perfect addition since this enzyme, which is found in pineapples, also has an antihistamine impact along with wonderful anti-inflammatory properties which help alleviate sinus inflammation. I have personally been taking this combination for two years and I am happy to report that it has truly helped me get through the first few weeks of spring in much better fashion. I hear the same reports from many of my patients who have also added this supplement to their arsenal.

Dosage

The recommended dosage of quercetin is anywhere from 250mg up to 800mg per day and bromelain is anywhere from 100-400mg per day. I would recommend starting with one capsule per day and assessing the impact before increasing to two or three (which is the maximum dosage recommended). You should not give this specific supplement to children since bromelain supplementation is not appropriate for kids. Another population that needs to be careful are those on blood thinners (specifically warfarin) or certain antibiotics like cyclosporine, along with pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Always feel free to double check with your primary care physician as well.
