WHAT IS THE FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT SCREEN?

WHAT IS THE FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT SCREEN?

  • The FMS is a total body movement based assessment that it used to identify range of motion, flexibility, strength, balance and coordination deficits.

  • The FMS identifies the factors that predispose individuals to a higher likelihood of injury, allowing our Physical Therapists to focus on those spots of weakness.

  • It consists of seven movements that are observed and analyzed by the examiner.

  • Each movement is given a score from 0-3, with 0 being the lowest and 3 being the highest obtainable score.

  • Studies have shown individuals that score below a 14, are significantly more vulnerable to injury.
