Meet Ben, DPT Student Buffalo

Why did you decide to enter the field of Physical Therapy?

I decided I wanted to pursue a career in Physical Therapy while I was in high school rehabbing a baseball related shoulder injury. The therapist I worked with went out of his way to connect with me on a personal level and truly made my PT experience feel unique and supremely important to him. His guidance and motivation through a lengthy rehab process made a profound impact on me and inspired me to pursue a career where I could impact countless others in the same way.

What is your background?

Currently, I am a 3rd year DPT student at the University at Buffalo which is also where I completed my undergraduate coursework, receiving a bachelors’ degree in Exercise Science. I also spent a year studying Kinesiology at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. During my undergraduate career, I was an infielder for both the University at Buffalo and Sam Houston State University Division 1 baseball teams. My playing days have passed me by but I have remained involved with the game through coaching youth, high school, and collegiate level baseball players.

What is your specialty/niche when it comes to being a future physical therapist?

In the future, I believe my specialty/niche as a physical therapist will be optimizing performance through clinical excellence and patient education. Whether it be the weekend warrior or high-level athlete, I am dedicated to guiding people towards autonomous maintenance and advancement of their performance.

What are you most looking forward to joining the R2P team?

I am most looking forward to being immersed in an environment that invests in people. For both patients and student interns, R2P has a reputation of doing everything in their power to prepare all that walk through their doors for high levels of performance. I am excited to embrace, learn from, and contribute to that culture in any way possible.

What are your plans on trying to engage and connect with the community?

The R2P staff is very active on social media; consistently engaging with the community and sharing useful nuggets of info. I plan to contribute to this in hopes of introducing a new audience to the R2P way.
