WHAT IS THE Y BALANCE TEST?

WHAT IS THE Y BALANCE TEST?

  • The YBT is an extensively researched test that is proven to be reliable in assessing an athlete’s risk of injury and symmetry with functional movement patterns.

  • The YBT can be utilized for measuring pre and post rehabilitation performance, improvement after performance enhancement programs, dynamic balance for fitness programs, and return to sport readiness.

  • Movement is a multi joint and multiplanar activity that needs to observed in a functional weight bearing manner that is consistent with the demands of our desired activities; the YBT accomplishes this in a standardized, reliable and reproducible manner.

How it is Administered:

The YBT is a device that is easily portable and can be set up on any flat and open space.  The individual being tested stands on an elevated block that sits in the middle of three tubes projecting away from the individual in the shape of a Y.  Each tube has a mobile block that slides up and down the tube when pressure is applied.  The individual being tested then squats down on one leg and reaches out with their other foot to push the block as far as they can.  This is performed in all three directions.
