Angel Ceballos, DPT Student, Miami

Why did you decide to enter the field of Physical Therapy?

I decided to join the field as a result of being exposed early on in high school after suffering various knee injuries, wrist injury, but the experience that open my eyes was my concussion rehabilitation. I suffered 2 concussions while playing lacrosse, which I sought out a physical therapist out for to return back for my senior year of lacrosse and those experiences influenced me heavily while in undergrad when I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to pursue as a career.

What is your background?

I was born and raised in Miami, where I grew up playing soccer, basketball, but my main sports were lacrosse, and football. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Florida in heath education and behavior, and currently completing my Doctorate of physical therapy at the University of Miami (The U). Before I left Miami I coached football and lacrosse for 2 seasons at a local high school.

What is your specialty/niche when it comes to being a future physical therapist?

The niche that I would like to pursue upon graduation and throughout my career is injury prevention, concussion rehab, and sports medicine. More specifically, I’d like to provide a bridge between rehabilitation and safely returning to sport, with an emphasis on injury prevention after return to sport for high school athletes.

What are you most looking forward to joining the Rehab 2 Perform team?

I’m most looking forward to seeing the field of physical therapy from a different lens and different approach. While there are multiple approaches to rehab, I believe that the way Rehab 2 Perform approaches rehab is unique. There’s a big emphasis on return to sport, and bridging the gap between rehab and performance, which has always been an interest of mine.
